Staff at a North Belfast charity dedicated to suicide awareness
say they are absolutely over the moon after winning a prestigious Ulster Bank
Award. The Public Initiative for the Prevention of Suicide and Self-Harm (PIPS)
community group is celebrating a £5000 award which staff plan to dedicate to
developing and delivering training programmes on a commerical basis. The Sir
George Quigley Award was founded in memory of the former Ulster Bank Group
chairman and is awarded to groups ‘in recognition of their contribution to the
wider community.’
‘Delighted’ with the award and cash, Jo Murphy form PIPS said the
money would be put to good use. “It is wonderful to be recognised in this way
and to receive such a prestigious award which we will use to the benefit of the
entire community” she said. “Any funding helps us to develop and enhance the
services we provide and this particular award will help us establish a social
enterprise called PIPS training.
Congratulating PIPS staff on their achievements, Ulster Bank Group
chair Dr Alan Gillespie said he hoped the award would help them attain long-term
sustainability for their commercial training programme. |
